Toggling the laser datum

You can enable and disable the laser datum at any time, without needing to re-calibrate the offset (the distance between the tool and the crosshair).

If you have the laser datum enabled, the crosshair will automatically come on whenever you  use the manual move controls, and you will always be asked whether you want to set the datum using the tool or the laser.

If you find that you don’t actually use the laser, you might want to disable it altogether.

This will mean that you won’t be asked what you are using to set the XY datum; SmartBench will just assume that you are using the tool centre.

How to disable the laser datum

In the console menu, use the arrow buttons to scroll through until you see the Maintenance button.

Press the “Maintenance” button.

Press the laser datum switch to disable the laser datum.

The Z Head LEDs will turn to green.

Congratulations, you have disabled the laser datum!

How to enable the laser datum

Press the laser datum switch to enable the laser datum.

If this is your first time enabling the laser datum, you will need to calibrate the laser datum offset before continuing (the laser datum is not set in the factory).

Click here to learn more about setting up the laser datum.

You will see the laser crosshair come on under the Z Head.

Congratulations, you have enabled the laser datum!
